I couldn’t just share a few with you from only this shoot. It’s such a joy to see kiddos growing up, and how they change, so I thought I’d share a few from back in the days when I didn’t even have a blog! ha!

Aaron’s mommy, Autumn, is one of my best friends, and she wanted to surprise her husband, Landon, with the portraits from Aaron’s one year session for Father’s Day. Landon was a volunteer fireman years ago, and still misses it, I think. Landon’s dad, Gary,  is the chaplain for the fire department in Henderson, Tennessee. So you see, it’s kind of in the family. Autumn was too excited to wait until Father’s Day to show Landon the pictures! ha! So, now I’m sharing them with you here on the blog!

Autumn talked to several of the local firemen that we know here to arrange to go to the fire station here. A big thank-you to the firemen here who graciously made this happen! Autumn is a great mommy, and she homeschools their older child, Adriana. So it worked out to be a great field trip for a sweet little girl.

It was time we took more pics of Ana anyway!

The firefighter who helped us so much even had little badge stickers and pretend fire helmets for the kids! And thanks, Autumn, for trusting me to capture your memories. The rest of the portraits are in the slideshow below. Enjoy!

Two Saturdays ago, May 3, we had our annual Widows Banquet at church. It’s always a fabulous time to honor our older ladies at church, and they aren’t all widows… it’s so much fun! Every year has a different theme, and this year it was “A Taste of Maple Hill”, loosely based on the Julie & Julia movie.

We have the opportunity to sign up to hostess a table. (Which is something else about me you might not know: I really, really enjoy decorating a table! For supper, a birthday party, or just because.) I signed up for that last year, I think, so you can imagine my delight when Mary Beth, who was coordinating this year’s Banquet, told me that the theme was a cooking/kitchen theme! She also said “if you have one, you can wear an apron, but if you don’t want to, it’s no big deal”, which just made me laugh to myself so much! If you know me well at all, you know that I have a fondness of aprons, and have quite the collection of vintage & modern aprons hanging on a long pegged shelf in my kitchen! I have so many that I have to change them out seasonally… which is fine with me, because I just get to enjoy them more.    My friend Lorie called me the night before and asked me if I had any “extra” aprons that they could use to decorate. Well, of course I have more!

For those of you who asked questions about my table after seeing the pics on Facebook:

• I asked my friend, Caitlyn, from church, to help me hostess the table. She is so sweet, and it’s so important to take an interest in a child’s life – that is, one who isn’t your own! And, hopefully, you will be a good influence! (Titus 2:4)
• the apron die-cuts I found on eBay in the scrapbooking section from a fabulous eBay seller
• the napkins are just what they look like: dishcloths from Wal-Mart! (Three in a pack for $1)
• the aprons are tied on to the chairs, with a note mentioning that they are from my personal collection
• the old cookbooks, milk-glass cake stand, apron book are mine. The Joy of Cooking was Mike’s Grandmother Elizabeth Wamble’s, given to her in 1931 from her sister, Marie. (How cool is that?!)
• the colander and red-handled kitchen tools hang on the wall of my mom’s kitchen. The old egg beaters were her mother’s.
• and, yes, my “silverware” came from Wal-Mart, and yes, it’s plastic!    I saved them & ran them thru the dishwasher, and they held up just fine.
• everything else came from my kitchen. Old white dishes, clear goblets, that’s me!
• I wanted a unique take-away for the ladies, and when I found these bookmarks on Etsy.com from an awesome seller, SassySadieLee, I was just about to bust! They are perfect! She had the bookmarks to me super-fast, and they are oh-so-cute! On the back of the bookmark was a hand-written note from me and Caitlyn, thanking the ladies for joining us.
• I made treat bags in addition to the bookmarks. Inside was a salt shaker with Matt. 5:13 (you are the salt of the earth) attached, some Mary Jane candy, a cookie cutter, a wooden spoon, and a sweet Apron Poem I found on the internet printed on a sheet of pretty paper.
• I also bought a bag of Hershey’s Hugs for Caitlyn as a thank-you. It’s a special 12-year-old who wants to help hostess & honor the ladies. But, her parents are awesome!

There are several things I love about my aprons:

• They remind me that my job on this earth is to serve my family and others. “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Eph. 2:10“
• I admire the women who’ve gone before me, who served their families tirelessy. Who have “tied one on” and gotten the job done, and who still served until their dying day, without thought of having “paid her dues”. Who want to work until their true reward: heaven. I want to be like them!
• I’ve saved the BEST reason for last.  I’m pretty sure that if He’d had one handy, Jesus would have worn one. I want to be like Him! “…the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.” Luke 22: 26-27

So, I tie on on.
